Three hundred years ago, a woman in Kuhl, Gapalia was with child. Amidst a famine, the numerous complications lead to the child being stillborn; and, subsequently, undead. The woman, her mind all but shattered and soul scarred, pleaded to the skies with an utter, bitter regret and grief - that which only a mother that was not meant to be could have. And through the sorrows and immense suffering of a single, mortal woman, Bhalen, who was to be her son, had returned as a fledgling God. Weak, almost powerless, and born of unbound sorrow, he had spent the last three hundred years eking out a fledgling following amongst the most downtrodden; all those whose spirits would be low enough to seek blessings from him. And blessings he would give; without fine text, bottom lines, or funny business. He sheltered, healed, and mended the lost souls of the continent.

It is common practice for mortals seeking Bhalen's aid to carve their own names into the bark of Weeping Willow trees as a form pleading prayer.
