It is said when the first king rose amongst humankind Otar was born. A beautiful god with the finest golden hair. For two thousand years he acted as the ruling deity in the Arbdorfian pantheon. A pantheon Balduun once belonged to as well.

His faith also spread throughout the world as it became fashionable amongst the nobility. Even in the dead world his symbol is scattered in temples, castles, palaces, cathedrals, mansions and estates. Fashion became tradition, which resulted in the god becoming immensely powerful... and with that power came arrogance.

Soon the ruling class of Arbdorfia reflected this through cruelty. Eventually the son of Balduun, Garmul representing war, unity and fortifications rose up to challenge the god of kings. The fight was brutal and cruel... a torturous beating more than a duel.

His rule did not last forever, as three hundred years later a new empire was founded by a god. This god of law, named Bremus has imprisoned the majority of those within his own pantheon for treason against the people of Gredonia.

Bremus took it upon himself after their imprisonment to rule his people, starting a long and harsh campaign. For each territory claimed, gods either joined his pantheon or were imprisoned.

Otar drunk on his own hubris cared little for this, emperor of the sun.

However this soon changed when his capital was invaded... it is rumored that it was Balduun himself that forged the chains that bound the gods, revenge for Otar killing his son.

Along with just over three hundred gods, Otar was imprisoned in a special vault. A mighty oak was planted and magically accelerated ontop of this vault by the Briar Queen, an ancient nature deity who served Bremus.

There he stayed for a millennia... until a party of adventurers, depending on the interpretation of the story was fooled by or came in aid of Otar. Killing the Dryad who inhabited the oak, destroying the bindings of the vault and freeing the nine remaining gods, Otar amongst them.

Now appearing skeletal and warped Otar swore revenge on Bremus and his empire. He realised that his name was stricken from records, temples burned and holy symbol lost to the machinations of time.

Or so Bremus thought.

The noble people of Lovia, still unconquered by Bremus still worshiped the god of kings. Time seemingly warping his image to these people as more benevolent as he ever was before his imprisonment.

Then there was the Cult of Voracity, its members all able to trace their bloodline to nobility from all over the globe. While still pertaining their wealth, they held a well hidden hatred for Bremus, believing that it is their birth right to rule instead of him.

Otar to them was the carrion king, ancient rituals were now twisted and perverted by the cult to include cannibalism, hedonism and debauchery.

Lovians state that Otar confronted these cultists and convinced most of them to turn from their wicked ways, instead coming into the salvation of Lovia when Bremus invaded. However texts exist that tell of a more sinister meeting between Otar and the cult of voracity.

For it is said he led them to the vault that contained him, revealing a banquet of god flesh, bone and blood. The cultists feasted for days, until not even a single drop of blood was left in the vault.

This the story claims is the birth of the creatures known as the Voracious.

Regardless of who you believe, Murdenhelm and many cities across the empire sudden fell into chaos as the Voracious spread, attracting and creating legions of undead. The empire of the sun was burning from the inside and if not for the sudden rise of a certain Lich, it may have crumbled from this chaos.
