Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

The DCT, for example, cannot account cultural and individual differences. The DCT can also be biased and result in overgeneralizations. It is essential to analyze it carefully before it is used for research or evaluation.

Despite its limitations, the DCT can be a valuable instrument to study the relationship between prosody and information structure in non-native speakers. The ability to manipulate the social variables that are relevant to politeness in two or more steps can be a strength. This ability can aid researchers understand the role of prosody in communication across cultural contexts, a major challenge in cross-cultural pragmatics.

In the field of linguistics, DCT is among the most effective tools used for analyzing communication behaviors of learners. Recent research has used the DCT as tool to evaluate the skills of refusal among EFL students. Participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate proficiency who gave responses to MQs and DCTs. They were also asked for reflections on their assessments and their refusals to participate in RIs. Their choices were influenced primarily by four factors: their personalities and multilingual identities, their ongoing life experiences as well as their relationships. First, the MQ data were analysed to identify the participants' rational choices. The data was classified according to Ishihara (2010)'s definition of pragmatic resistance. The participants comprised 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs, and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. This will enable them to better know how different cultures may impact the pragmatic behavior of L2 students in the classroom and beyond.
