The diagnosis of adult ADHD has proved to be complicated. Despite the development of machine learning technology and other diagnostic tools, methods for diagnosing ADHD remain largely subjective. This may contribute to delays in initiating treatment. To increase the effectiveness and consistency of the procedure, researchers have attempted to develop a computer-based ADHD diagnostic tool, called QbTest. It's an automated CPT that is paired with an infrared camera to measure motor activity.

An automated diagnostic system can cut down the time needed to determine the presence of adult ADHD. Patients will also benefit from early detection.

Many studies have studied the use of ML to detect ADHD. The majority of these studies have relied on MRI data. Other studies have explored the use of eye movements. Some of the advantages of these methods include the accessibility and reliability of EEG signals. However, these measures have limitations in sensitivity and specificity.

A study carried out by Aalto University researchers analyzed children's eye movements in a virtual reality game to determine if the ML algorithm could identify differences between normal and ADHD children. The results proved that machine learning algorithms could be used to recognize ADHD children.

Another study looked at machine learning algorithms' effectiveness. The results indicated that a random forest algorithm offers a higher level of robustness as well as higher rates of risk prediction errors. In the same way, a test of permutation demonstrated higher accuracy than randomly assigned labels.
